Darryl and Shannon have two children. Their son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren live in California and their daughter and son-in-law reside right here on Richland Chambers Lake.
The Medford’s travels have taken them to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, California, Alaska and New York. Their other shared interests include fishing, animals, cooking, volunteering and working at their lodge. Shannon also likes crafting when she can fit in the time. Although these neighbors are always looking for volunteer opportunities, they stay pretty busy with their lodge. Darryl and Shannon became full-time residents of the RC Lake area in 2011. They purchased 16 acres near Ladd’s Harbor and built their house in 2012. “We love the community, the peace and quiet, and the people out here,”
After two long years of clearing the 6 acres of land and erecting 7 cabins and a central lodge, the new lodge is sight to behold. The tranquil setting is just lovely and each cabin has been furnished with a rustic décor. All cabins are equipped with a television, as well as a kitchenette that includes a microwave and full-size refrigerator. Guests will also find new furniture, appliances, a coffee maker and cookware. In addition, each cabin has air-conditioning and heat.
Nightly rental includes a hot breakfast buffet served in the lodge. Lunch is also available for purchase. We feed our guests when they wake up and we feed them when they leave. Each cabin has their own designated horseshoe pit and there is a centrally-located volleyball area for all guests to enjoy. There are also picnic tables, barbeque pits and a pit to build an outdoor fire for each cabin.
Fisherman’s Cove Lodge offers guided Fishing and Hunting, with two local fishing guides headquartered on site, Hooked Up Guide Services and Wild Bill’s Guide Service. We specialize in Trophy Blue Cats, Hybrid Striped Bass, Crappie, and Sand Bass. We also specialize in duck hunting, hog hunting, dove hunting, and hunting for exotics; all guided hunts on private land.
Shannon Medford grew up in El Paso but left there at the age of 18 when her parents moved to Midland, TX where her family has owned a ranch for over 100 years. Shannon met her future husband, Darryl, while living in Midland. “He was an auditor working at Firestone and I happened to have a flat tire when he was at the counter,” she recalled. “He called me later to ask me on a date.” She then revealed, “Our first date was the Christmas pageant at his church.”
Darryl Medford hails from Mount Pleasant and Cedar Creek. His family owned and operated the Island Marina in Gun Barrel City. “My grandparents lived on Cedar Creek and we frequented their marina!” Shannon said. “I didn't know them at the time so it’s kind of cool that we are married now.
Shannon was a Deaf Education teacher and Parent Advisor for DISD while Darryl’s career was in IT.
